The community is seriously fractured. Even a comics enthusiast like me takes a while to discover some of the major sites.
What's needed are sites of merit, by genre. Sites dedicated to a particular style, with hosted comics chosen by merit. This is the only way I can see to put comics out in front of less committed readers and build the readership base.
